A Modern Parable

A Modern Parable

And Jesus told this parable to those who needed their eyes opened to the truth:

One Saturday an evangelical Christian answered his doorbell, opened his door, and saw three elderly but well-dressed people on his front porch.

“Good afternoon, sir” began the male leader of this trio. ‘We were in your neighborhood and happened to notice that…”

The Christian headed him off before he could continue “Look, I know what you Jehovah Witnesses are here for. I know what you believe. But I have something that you need. You need to understand that Christ has already paid the price for your sins, and that you can be assured that you have eternal life in Him!”

Gentleman on the porch: “Thank you sir. We’d love to talk to you about these matters of eternity, and leave you with this timely brochure, but…”

Christian: “I don’t need any pamphlets, thank you; I already have eternal life through the finished atoning work of Jesus on the cross… and by the way, the Bible DOES teach that Jesus Christ is God, and I can prove that to you. Wait, just let me get my Bible…”

Gentleman: “We would enjoy studying the Bible with you and discussing these matters, but right now we have a matter of great importance to tell you…”

Christian: “There is nothing more important than knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and if you study the Bible, I can make that clear to you. Wait… do you smell smoke?”

Gentleman: “Well, we just came by to tell you that the back of your house is on fire, and that we already called 911 for you. The fire engines should be hear soon.’

And Jesus said, “Let everyone be quick to listen and slow to speak, for as it is written in Proverbs, ‘He who answers before listening – that is his folly and shame’.” (Prov. 18:13)
