Letter to the Editor: Questions that need to be answered about the recent same sex marriage ruling. May 27, 2014

To the Editor:
In light of the recent ruling by Judge John Jones III to “discard on the ash heap of history” our commonwealth’s defense of marriage act, some questions need to be answered:
How can one man’s opinion demolish the foundational social unit that all societies have been built on for thousands of years? Can you imagine one umpire redefining the rules of baseball for all the games played in Pennsylvania?
How can we be so blind to all the clear evidence that demonstrates that marriage can only be for one man and one woman, for life, in a covenant bond of love? How can anyone ignore the God-created and wonderful complementary differences between a male and a female, and their reproductive implications? How can we not see that children need a mother and a father?
How can Gov. Corbett declare that he will not appeal Judge Jones’ ruling, when he promised to defend the Defense of Marriage Act? How can he claim that he believes in traditional marriage, yet fail to uphold it?
How can evangelical pastors remain silent on this matter, when God Himself established marriage as a one man, one woman covenant (Genesis 2:18-24), and our Lord Jesus Christ affirmed the same truth (Matthew 19:4-6)? Where are those leaders who will stand in the gap and proclaim God’s truth in the public square, as they shepherd their flocks?
How long can we expect God to be patient with us as a nation, when we have trashed his laws, broken His covenant, and suppressed His truth by our wickedness? His kindness and patience toward us is meant to lead us to repentance from our sin and to faith in Jesus as our Savior and Lord, as our Joy and Treasure.
How can the holy and just God of the universe show such loving kindness to me, an undeserving sinner? Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!
May each of us prayerfully ponder the answers to these questions.

Yours truly,
